After releasing a stellar live record back in 2009 that received overwhelming amount of praise from critics, as well as an incredibly ambitious remix LP entitled Specials that followed in 2010, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Black Seeds[/lastfm] have finally returned in full force with Dust And Dirt, their first full length album of new tunes since 2008′s Solid Ground.
Dust And Dirt has certainly been a long time coming in terms of fresh music from [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Black Seeds[/lastfm]; and much to the delight of fans, after only a few listens, the album serves as more than solid evidence that the band hasn’t missed a beat since 2008, the last time they released original music. The band does quite a bit of new things that gives insight into the different ways they’ve grown since they last released new music.
The Black Seeds progression as musicians both lyrically and musically on Dust & Dirt is arguably a result of the variety of experiences in life that the band experienced while working tirelessly over the course of four years. The new elements that the band began to experiment with on Solid Ground also come into play on the bands latest effort, a move that looks to be shaping an exciting sound that will usher in the next phase of The Black Seeds. The sound doesn’t take anything away from what makes the band great though, as it is a comfortable fuse of the bands classic sound with unique funky grooves that were seen for the first time on Solid Ground.
However, following up an album with the success of Solid Ground after four years could not have been an easy feat, but [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Black Seeds[/lastfm] certainly rise to the occasion, bringing fans an album with a number of masterfully crafted grooves that bring listeners on a journey that will make their minds happy, their ears to rejoice, and most importantly, force their bodies to move!
