Longtime Indigo Girl Amy Ray Drops 4th Solo Record “Lung Of Love”

[pullquote quote="I have a compass-morally, physically-and I am pulled in different directions, I was thinking about how these opposite urges create stress and clumsiness in our lives." credit="Amy Ray"][lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Amy Ray[/lastfm], often dubbed as the “rock” half of GRAMMY-winning folk duo [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Indigo Girls[/lastfm], returns with another solo album called Lung Of Love. The record is Ray’s fourth solo studio effort and features the inclusion of a few new elements to spice up the formula, but is certainly not without the edginess that has made her a household name.

Over the course of her storied career that has spanned close to thirty years, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Amy Ray[/lastfm] has been a pivotal piece to the success experienced by the extremely influential duo she and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Emily Sailers[/lastfm] started back in 1985 known to the world as [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Indigo Girls[/lastfm]. But what many people don’t know is that Ray has also released four highly successful solo albums; so it’s shouldn’t be news to anyone that the folk sensation is regarded as one of the most recognizable voices in pop music.

As you’d expect from the acclaimed “rock” half of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Indigo Girls[/lastfm], the sounds on Lung Of Love range at times from raw, distorted guitar rave-ups to pleasantly unexpected Appalachian come-to-Jesus throwdowns. However, unlike Ray’s previous solo records, her latest effort is a tad more pop driven. The experimentation in the pop realm suits her quite well in a time where in order to stay fresh, subtle change of sorts are necessary; and on Lungs Of Love, Amy completely nails it with a passionate pop-rock sound behind some of the catchiest lines she’s ever penned.
