This is one of the most exciting categories at this Sunday’s 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards: Best Latin Pop, Rock or Urban Album. Street Date was lucky enough to play host to two of this year’s nominated bands, both of them from Caracas, Venzuela: [lastfm]La Vida Boheme[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Los Amigos Invisibles[/lastfm]. [lastfm]La Vida Boheme[/lastfm] are nominated for their debut album Neustra, which is easily one of the most exciting records of the year. Striking out against the culture of oppression in their native Venezuela, La Vida Boheme crafted this punk rock opus that has become a rallying cry for youth in that country. Nuestra is nominated for Best Latin Pop, Rock or Urban Album and the band’s lead single “Radio Capital” is nominated for at Latin GRAMMY for Best Rock Song. Our next nominees have reached legendary status in their hometown of Caracas, Venezuela for their bombastic live shows that often stretch to three hours with no break in the funk. [lastfm]Los Amigos Invisibles[/lastfm] set the right tone in their Street Date session last year, bringing the funk and playing until every last person in the room was dancing. Their 2011 EP Not So Commercial earned them a GRAMMY nomination for the song “G String” which they performed at Street Date.
