Live At The Paramount was held on Halloween night in 1991, and shows the legendary band at their peak, immediately following Nevermind (released one month prior), the band puts on an unforgettable performance that is sure to excite any fan. The concert was taken on 16mm film, making it the only full Nirvana concert officially recorded. The DVD version of this great concert was released back in September 2011, and the Blu-Ray version will be released this coming Tuesday on January 10, where you will be able to here Nirvana in PCM 5.1 and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.
Nirvana defined a generation, with just three studio albums they did more to music than most bands ever will. The power trio dissolved after lead singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain died in 1994 from a self-inflicted gun shot, but dissolving has not stopped the band from gaining new fans each year since their departure. It has been close to 20 years since the band’s finish yet they are still one of the most frequently listened to groups in music. Whether it is the fans who saw them play (30<), the ones who grew up in the Nirvana fueled 90′s (20<), or the ones born after the band’s end who could not help but rock out to the likes of “Come As You Are” and “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. The band has undoubtedly left its mark on music history and on the lives of so many of its fans.
The Blu-Ray is filled with songs from Nevermind (1991) and Bleach (1989) and opens with a cover of The Vaselines‘ song “Jesus Doesn’t Want Me For A Sunbeam”. Kurt and bassist Krist Novoselic bounce around the stage as they drift in and out of consciousness frequently getting lost in the music, separating themselves from the audience, attacking their instruments with a fusion of force and passion. There have been reports that there are sync issues with the sound on the Blu-Ray, which if true will hopefully be remedied, as the concert is not one to miss, showing Nirvana at its best performing a great high energy performance only Nirvana could give.
The surviving members, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic have both gone on to other musical endeavors. Grohl started the Foo Fighters after Cobain’s death and is also a member of Them Crooked Vultures with Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, and lead singer and guitarist Josh Homme from the band Queens of The Stone Age. While Krist has gone on to form Sweet 75 and Eyes Adrift over the years releasing an album with each group, he also aided Nirvana band mate Dave Grohl on the Foo Fighters last album, Wasting Light.
